Qualcomm confirms a 64-bit Snapdragon-powered smartphone for IFA - seems to be the HTC Desire 820

Qualcomm today informed the world that a “Snapdragon powered multi-core 64-bit smartphone” is going to be unveiled at IFA 2014. While the chipmaker didn’t provide more details on this, the teaser image that it’s using shows exactly the same device that HTC revealed a few days ago. More exactly, it shows just a tiny part of the device - believed to be the HTC Desire 820.

Unlike the entry-level Desire 510, which was introduced earlier this week featuring a 64-bit capable Snapdragon 410 processor, the Desire 820 is expected to come with a more powerful octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU. The 615 includes four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz, plus four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.0 GHz. For now, we don’t know where, and neither when the Desire 820 will be available. In any case, for it to truly take advantage of the 64-bit capabilities of the Snapdragon 615, it must run Android L - so perhaps HTC will release it only after Google launches this new Android version (sometime this fall).

IFA 2014 starts next week, and we just can’t wait to see what HTC and Qualcomm have to show us.
