T-Mobile's Nokia Lumia 521 and Nokia Lumia 925 to receive Windows Phone 8.1 later this year
Earlier this year, it was expected that before the end of the summer,  T-Mobile's Nokia Lumia 521 and Nokia Lumia 925 would both be running Windows Phone 8.1 (including Cortana). But the days are getting shorter, the air a little cooler, and fall is coming without Windows Phone 8.1 being made available for either device on T-Mobile.

New ultra-cheap, $38 Firefox OS powered smartphone lands in India

Dual-SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and two cameras, the Spice Fire One Mi-FX 1 delivers a lot for under $40
One of Mozilla’s Firefox OS mobile platform partners, Spice, has introduced the Spice Fire One Mi-FX 1, possibly the most affordable smartphone in the world.
It will be available on August 29th, and the phone will cost just ₹2,299 ($38). India is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, growing smartphone markets in the world. However, the economy does not generate enough purchasing power parity (PPP) to see higher-end smartphone sales as they exist in markets like the United States and Europe.

Apple is replacing some iPhone 5 units over battery life issue

No comments:

If your iPhone 5's battery life suddenly took a turn for the worse, it may not just <!--more-->be you. Apple today launched a battery replacement program for some iPhone 5 devices sold between September 2012 and January 2013. According to the company, these devices may "suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently." As with other voluntary repair efforts, Apple's put up a serial number validator for people to check if they have one of the affected units. It's also offering refunds for people who may have paid to have their battery replaced, which Apple charges $79 to do out of its one year warranty.

Apple had a separate issue with what it said were a "very limited number" of iPhone 5S units shortly after its launch last year. It's currently unclear whether the two issues are related to one another.

Swing Copters Lands in the Play Store; Brings Infuriating Flappy Bird Gameplay Back

No comments:

A little while ago, we heard that the creator of Flappy Bird was to return with another game dubbed Swing Copters. The teaser trailer showed us gameplay which looked remarkably like Flappy Bird’s own, and now it’s available for all to try out in the Play Store. You might be wondering what’s changed and, if you can believe it, Swing Copters is even more infuriatingly tricky to master than Flappy Bird was. The main aim of the game is to guide your ‘copter through the gates by heading up while tapping to keep going. Sounds easy, right? Wrong.
Instead of being something that people will be able to pick up nice and quickly, Swing Copters features a motion component that tasks you with moving your device left and right to guide your ‘copter left and right in game. This is extremely sensitive and thus helps create a difficult and challenging gameplay experience that will have even the most patient users pulling their hair out. I’ve not spent a huge amount of time with the game yet – and I’m perhaps unlikely to – but I found it extremely difficult, and I’m someone that prefers to play games at their most difficult setting. Either way, if you actually enjoyed Flappy Bird and you want more of the same, without having to resort to one of the bajillion clones out there, then Swing Copters could be the game for you.
Swing Copters comes from the same GEARS studio and the graphical style is remarkably similar to Flappy Bird with the same sort of sound effects to boot. It’s completely free on both Android and iOS, but for some reason there is no way to get rid of ads in the Android version, but then again we shouldn’t be that surprised. If you’d like to give the game a go, just head on over to the source link and see what score you can get. Or, you know, play something else? Choice is yours.

Google Chrome arrives in Cuba

No comments:

Google Chrome is now available for download in Cuba, one of the world's most isolated internet regimes.

Google announced the move in a short Google+ post Wednesday, noting that American sanctions against Cuba and other countries have made it more difficult for the company to launch products abroad. Although Cuban internet users have been able to access Chrome through unofficial channels, they'll now be able to download the web browser directly from google.com.cu.

This week's announcement comes after Google Chairman Eric Schmidt and a delegation of web activists visited Cuba in June, pushing for a free and open internet. The government of Raúl Castro has inched toward greater web access in recent months, with new fiber-optic connections and more than 100 public internet cafes, but the outlook remains bleak. According to government figures, just 3 percent of Cubans have regular access to the internet, and broadband subscriptions are among the most expensive in the world.

Google has campaigned for greater web access in other isolated countries, as well. Google launched Chrome in both Syria and Iran in recent years, while Schmidt has made trips to Myanmar and North Korea.

Unlocked ZTE Nubia 5S Mini goes on pre-order in the USA

No comments:
ZTE's smartphones rarely make it to the United States. When they do, they're usually devoid of their original names, being sold as cheap own-brand smartphones by smaller carriers. That isn't the case this time around, though.
ZTE is bringing the Nubia 5S Mini to the US, with LTE support in tow. And it will be sold unlocked, so you don't have to go to a specific carrier to get one.

In fact, the handset is already up for pre-order at Amazon, with an asking price of $279.99. It will start shipping on August 27.

Android studio

No comments:
Unless you are using a game engine with an integrated scripting language, game development is usually done with C++. On the other hand, most Android applications are developed with Java.
This post will explain how to integrate C++ code into Android Studio, use gradle to build it and clear out some misconceptions.
If you used Eclipse you probably know there was a relatively easy way to add "native library" support to your project but now that most projects are being moved to the newer Android Studio it seems like there is no more C++ support. That is incorrect.
There are two ways to add C++ code code into your project. The first is by including prebuilt libraries which you have compiled elsehwere or were pre-compiled for you. The other is to compile them directly from your Android Studio project.
Including pre-built C++ libraries
Including pre-built libraries is simple. Android Studio will look for a specific directory tree and copy all libraries it finds.
The folder structure should be in your Android Studio module's folder and look like this
