BlackBerry users more likely to switch to the Apple iPhone 6

Online research firm Survata completed a survey of 889 people, and discovered that 6% of BlackBerry users are "very likely" to switch to the Apple iPhone 6. For Android users, 5% believe that they will end up purchasing the iPhone 6. Only 3% of Windows Phone users said that they were likely to switch. The survey took place between September 2nd and September 4th.

Not surprisingly, 36% of Apple iPhone 5 owners expect to buy the iPhone 6. Many who purchased the iPhone 5, will soon have their two-year contract expire. That will leave them with an upgrade to use toward purchasing the new handset at a subsidized price. Those with the newer Apple iPhone 5s (18%) and Apple iPhone 5c (15%) are also desirous of the larger-screened version of their phone.

In noting that only 5% of Android users surveyed said that they were likely to switch to the iPhone 6, Survata said that the features expected to appear on the next iteration of Apple's smartphone, a 4.7 inch screen with a 417ppi pixel density, and NFC connectivity, have long been available on Android handsets.

Considering that the Apple iPhone 6 has yet to be introduced, those responding to the survey had to base their answers on speculation and rumors. These numbers could be different after Tuesday, once the Apple iPhone 6 is unveiled.

BlackBerry Passport detailed review appears ahead of launch

BlackBerry plans to launch the Passport in September, but luckily for everyone who has been expecting it, a detailed review has surfaced before its debut. It comes courtesy our Czech colleagues from Mobilenet.cz and reveals just about everything about the smartphone.


Inside the BlackBerry Passport there's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 chipset with a quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. There is also 32GB internal memory, which can be expanded further via the microSD card slot. The battery is quite large in capacity at 3,450mAh but because the phone didn't stick around for long, there was no time for a proper battery test.
The phone measures 128x90.3x9.3mm and weighs the massive 195 grams. At the back, there's a 13MP camera with LED flash and 1080p@60fps video recording capabilities. It has optical image stabilization, too. While there's NFC and LTE connectivity options, the Passport's Wi-Fi is limited to 802.11n only.
The 4.5" display of 1440x1440 pixel resolution boasts a pixel density of 453 ppi. It's also covered with a protective layer of Gorilla Glass 3. The review reveals that the phone feels really sturdy and is built to last. On the side, there's a steel frame, while the back is made of soft touch material to be less slippery.
One of the most interesting features of the Passport is its keypad which doubles as a large touchpad. There are few interesting gestures available. One of them is the ability to quickly delete words by swiping to the left. The keyboard itself is fantastic to write on, but one handed use is quite hard as the phone is just too wide.
Lastly, the review mentions the phone's availability in Europe, which will happen in October. The price of the Passport is quoted at $760 (CZK16,000). Follow the source link to check out more live photos of the BlackBerry Passport.

Verizon and BlackBerry have a deal for enterprise customers

A video clip posted by BlackBerry, reveals a deal it has for its enterprise customers through a partnership with Verizon. The video shows that BlackBerry will offer as much as $150 in bill credits for each legacy device traded in for a BlackBerry 10 model.  You can use the bill credit to  purchase BlackBerry Technical Support, purchase BBM Protected, or use the credits however you want.

The video also promotes BES10, with BlackBerry offering free licenses if you make the switch from another MDM provider. You can monitor your entire fleet even if it consists of iOS and Android powered handsets. Windows Phone handsets will be supported on BES12. And BlackBerry is offering free technical support through January 31st 2015.

The video is obviously aimed at corporations, both large and small, who are stuck with BlackBerry legacy devices. And BlackBerry is trying to get businesses to switch to BES10. If you work for a company that hands out BlackBerry handsets to employees, perhaps you can talk to the powers that be, about this deal. And don't forget to cut out pictures of the BlackBerry Passport and tape them to the mirror in the executive washroom.
